Here is a trick to shutdown your computer  at a specific time. You might be thinking what great about it, well you can shutdown your computer without the use of any software. Just shutdown your computer at specific time from RUN Command. For example if you wish to shutdown at 09:45 am. Type this in
Start=>Run
Type Code:        at 11:35 shutdown -s
To cancel or Abort the shutdown:
Type Code:                   shutdown -a
Type  Code:  “shutdown –s –m\\computername –t60”. This command will shutdown the computer on network if you have administrative access.  Here computername needs to be replaced by the exact computer name of the computer on the network to work.

Converting text files between Windows and UNIX


The way textfiles are formatted differs between Windows and Unix. If you open a textfile made in notepad under unix you will find that it has ^M where there should be a new line.

Convert a text file from Windows/dos to unix:

tr -d '\015' < win-format.txt > unix-format.txt

Convert a text file from unix to Windows/dos:

sed -e 's/$/\r/' unix-format.txt > win-format.txt

Notepad Secrets:-

Create a log
  1. 1. Open Notepad

  2. 2. On the very first line, type in ".LOG" (without quotes) then press Enter for a new line

  3. 3. Now you can type in some text if you want, then save the file.

  4. 4. Next time when you open the file, notice its contents. Notepad automatically adds a time/date log everytime you open the file.
Text becomes unreadable
  1. 1. Open Notepad

  2. 2. On the very first line, type in "dont eat the donut" (without quotes) then save and close the file. 
  3. Note: the file should have only one line of the text above.

  4. 3. Now, open the same file. You'll notice the text becomes unreadable squares. (try this with different text with the same format and length).

Turn off automatic updates notification

Sometimes we get annoyed by the notifications  for automatic updates.most of the people dont like them a bit.they want it to turn off. This is simple as 1 2 3..Steps:


1.Go to control panel.(start>>settings>>control panel)


2.Open security center.





3.Click "change the way security center alerts me".





4.Here you can turn off the alert for automatic updates, virus protection and firewall.
