This was a problem for me before a while since i have used a slower computer. The annoyance is when you want select or higlight multiple files in a folder in windows xp and in windows 7 also in vista you have to pause over each line until the transcluent selection rectangle become solid in color. This problem probably arises on computers with less RAM and graphics.
FIX:
This problem can be simply avoided by Un checking an option in the system properties.

1. Right click on my computer
2. Under Advanced tab click settings in found in performance section
3. In the list uncheck "show transcluent selection rectangle" option
4. Click apply then ok
In windows 7 and vista try these in similer options.
